The Armageddon Pepper is the world's first F1 hybrid superhot chili, developed in the UK and introduced in 2019. It delivers intense heat around 1.3 million SHU with a fruity flavor and matures earlier than the Carolina Reaper.

The Armageddon Pepper is a hybrid variety primarily classified under Capsicum chinense, resulting from a cross with Capsicum frutescens. Created by Tozer Seeds and first grown commercially by Salvatore Genovese in the UK, it was released to the market in 2019 as the first F1 hybrid superhot chili pepper. The plants are vigorous, knee-high (typically 24-30 inches tall with a 16-20 inch spread), and highly productive with excellent fruit uniformity. Fruits are habanero-type, pendant-shaped, measuring 1.5 to 2 inches long by 1 to 2 inches wide, starting pale green and maturing to a bright fiery red with a small distinctive tip or tail. It boasts a Scoville rating of approximately 1.3 million SHU, placing it in the superhot category—hotter than a ghost pepper and comparable to or slightly below the Carolina Reaper, while maturing up to two weeks earlier. The flavor is described as fruity, typical of chinense varieties, but the primary appeal is its extreme heat, making it suitable for hot sauces, extreme culinary challenges, and commercial superhot production due to its high yields and ease of harvest. It offers improved plant vigor over open-pollinated superhots.
