Sugar Rush Yellow is a sweet, fruity Capsicum baccatum pepper with medium heat and vibrant elongated yellow pods. Bred in Europe from Peruvian stock, it excels in flavor and productivity. A standout for fresh eating and sauces.

The Sugar Rush Yellow pepper, also known as Sugar Rush Amarillo or Long Yellow, is a Capsicum baccatum cultivar featuring elongated pods that ripen to a bright yellow from green. The pods are typically 4-6 inches long with thick, crunchy walls and a juicy interior. Its flavor is exceptionally sweet and fruity with tropical and citrus undertones, balanced by a medium heat that builds gradually rather than overwhelming the palate. This variety emerged from accidental crosses in an experimental greenhouse in Finland, part of the Sugar Rush series developed from South American baccatum peppers native to Peru. Plants grow tall, reaching 4-5 feet or more, and are highly prolific, producing abundant yields even in cooler conditions. It is easy to grow, requiring full sun and support for the gangly stems. The peppers are versatile in the kitchen, prized for their crunch and sweetness that make them suitable for fresh consumption, hot sauces, pickles, and drying. Compared to hotter relatives like habaneros, it prioritizes flavor while delivering satisfying warmth around 50,000-100,000 SHU.
